i think it would be impossible to confuse the words, "it's over" with a long
Latin like spell such as "petrificus totalus"--spelling?  Even in the heat
of the moment, with Harry's incredible hatred and his fixation on Snape, he
would certainly recognize his voice and know any words that came out of his
mouth.  the two phrases are so different, sound so different, that as a
possible clue to Snape's real motives, it doesn't work for me.  i would
never confuse something like that if i heard it, and I think it won't be the
deciding factor in determining Snape's loyalties.  Not that Carol ever meant
it to be the deciding factor, I realize, just that as a clue, it doesn't
work for me.
