Ouch, I had forgotten that Ron's wand malfunctioned (as Lockhart 
could have attested, had he had any memories left:-)). Good catch! 
Perhaps Hagrid's wand did malfunction sometimes too, only not when 
we saw him use it? Not very convincing, I know, but I haven't got 
any better idea *blushes*.

In book 6 he was already cleared of all charges, so I guess he could 
have bought himself a new wand.
