Regarding broken wands...who says that Hagrid's wand was actually  
broken. Personally, I would suspect that DD replaced Hagrid's with 
a dummy/extra wand (or simply reported that he had broken Hagrid's  
wand) and Hagrid actually has the unbroken wand in his umbrella.
