Just noticed something tonight. Might not mean anything but I found it
must mean that Karkaroff knew James Potter pretty well. When he first
spots Harry, I always thought in my reading he recognized him through
the scar, but I now realize that he recognizes James and confirms
Harry's identity with the scar:
-------
"Thank you," said Karkaroff carelessly, glancing at him (Harry).
And then Karkaroff froze. He turned his head back to Harry and stared
at him as though he couldn't believe his eyes.
Karkaroff's eyes moved slowly up Harry's face and fixed upon his scar.
------
So, it seems to me, he knew James well enough to momentarily mistake
Harry in the way that one does when they think they recognize someone.
Does this give us a clue to James profession?
