> There might be a simpler explanation for events. Suppose that DD
expected Slughorn to stay for only 1 year. He moved SS to DADA and
had Slughorn teach potions. At the end of the year, Snape would go
back to teaching potions and a new DADA teacher would be found, or at
least looked for.
> This takes into account the jinx that DD suspects is there, but
solves his problem for a year. Things just didn't work out in the
fashion expected.
zgirnius:
I see two problems with this explanation.
First, Slughorn probabyl needs to stay on. I don't think Dumbledore
wants him out in the world unprotected, where Voldemort mught learn
that he shared the Horcrux memory with Harry.
Second, this dodge was tried already. I believe it was stated
expokicitly that Moody was going to take the job for just a year, to
help out Dumbledore. Yet the curse certainly struck him. It could
easily affect Snape in a way that would render him unemployable by
the school in the following year, in any capacity.
(As, in fact, he is, being doubtless the second-most-wanted wizard in
the WW!)
