But why would Voldy not expect Lily to be there with Harry and that 
she would try to fight him like James did? He clearly didn't expect 
her to shield Harry with her body and won't budge, but he should have 
expected her to be there and to be the next person he faces after 
James, ay? 

Granted that Voldy's mom didn't love him enough to stay alive for him, 
but then what Merope did was die giving birth to him. She didn't 
commit suicide while pregnant with him, so she only gave up her own 
life while wanting Tom to live.
