Leah here:
Is there any canon that says LV assumed a boy? Surely he would just
work back from the two knowns in the prophecy fragment- that the
Chosen One's parents must have thrice defied VM and that the Chosen
One must have an end of July birthday. The two who met those
criteria happened to be both boys. If Harry had been a Harriet she
would still have ticked those particular boxes, and we would only
have been able to judge whether LV had a sexist view of her as a
lesser threat if he had then ignored the Potters and gone after
Neville
