Eddie:
Interesting question. I suppose it depends on whether JKR (and me
and you and whoever) believes in ultimate redemption. Katie, you
seem to vote "nope, no redemption." Me, I'd vote "yes". JKR
votes....???

Either way, it seems certain to me that the locked room at the
Ministry of Magic (the room of Love) will play a key part in the
finale of the series. Can even LV be redeemed by the power in that
room? Is it so powerful that it destroys what is left of LV?
Can/Will Harry lure LV into the room of Love using himself as bait?
Will Harry lock himself in there with LV permanently? Will Harry
lock LV in there alone, permanently, as an act of mercy?

Oooooo the possibilities!
