Whoa!  Sadistic?  Torment?  Torture?  How about they're just stupid
kids?  Whatever adult situations they've faced already, they're
still kids.

Doesn't anybody have siblings?  My sisters didn't have acid pops or
the ability to transfigure my toys, but they would have if they
could (and vice versa).  They are, however, close to that arbitrary
age of majority at that point, still kids with bad/undeveloped
judgement skills.  I feel (however misguided their actions were)
they were demonstrating their loyalty to Harry as an honorary member
of the Weasley clan.
