You may be right about that, it's certainly something I haven't
thought of before. But there are possible other answers, too, as you
indicate.
The one I think is most plausible is that R.A.B. was Regulus Black;
he left the Death Eaters after (snipped)
he somehow has discovered the secret of the locket horcrux and
somehow overcomes the obstacles and takes it back to number 12.
This is his last action as a Death Eater as much as it is his first
action as a fugitive from LV's thugs. He didn't destroy the locket
because he didn't figure out how to do it before he was killed.
Donna:
Do we really know the locket at number 12 is the horcrux?
Do we really know R.A.B. didn't destroy the horcrux?
Have I missed something?
