What if the evil of Tom Jr stems from the result of his "unnatural"
birth? Could the love potion that flowed through Tom Srs veins have
an adverse effect on his ability to love? Could this be the reason
that the Fidelious Charm was so strong and VM could not touch Harry?
If anyone has read the Gregory Magurire book WICKED or seen the
musical, <snip details not related to Harry Potter> She was not evil

Against Snape's reply:

I believe that HBP tells us how Tom Riddle Sr. became evil:

He grew up in a muggle orphanage, knowing that his mother died giving
birth to him. Once joining the wizarding world, he tried to find out
about his family. His results were that his father left his mother
because he (father) discovered that she was a witch.

>From the summery above, I think that the reason Voldemort became evil
is because he was trying to fix the mistakes which he believed his
mother made, causing him to grow up without parents.
