It seems to me that either Snape contacted Dumbledore or 
Dumbledore was staying in very close communication with Snape 
during his disappearance, closer than with the rest of the Order.

Any wild speculation about where DD may have been?  
He said he wasn't going to Grimmauld Place and that 
he wasn't going into hiding.  Where did he go?
