Because of the discussion that follows this comment, I think there ought to  
be quotes (inverted commas) around that statement, as she's actually quoting  
what the author is thinking - i.e., "...an author who thinks, 'I'm going to 
kill  him off...'."  I believe this is the proper punctuation, because she then  
goes on to cite Agatha Christie killing off Hercule Poirot (in CURTAIN) -  
which Dame Agatha did for EXACTLY the reason cited.  (She killed off Miss  
Marple for the same reason, in SLEEPING MURDER.)  
 
Read this way, it looks a little less hopeful for Harry, IMHO.
