DD is dead, really, really, truly, fully DEAD. I do think  that there is 
a strong possibility that He will return in book 7, near the  end.

DD is already back before HBP ended. He was slumbering in a golden frame  
over the desk. Even though his physical body is gone, his portrait is  among the 
dearly departed headmasters and headmistresses of Hogwarts.  And we all know 
that wizards can come and go as they please in their portraits,  even in 
different locations. I think that's where he will be all throughout  book 7: Guiding Harry from his portrait. IMHO!
