Ah, very clever.  It could have been at LV's suggestion, but doesn't 
have to be.  It would have been very easy for Peter and doesn't even 
have to be complex - "Sirius, you know, I shouldn't say anything 
but...  I overheard Remus talking and he's telling people that YOU'RE 
the spy!"  And say the reverse to Lupin.  Sounds very junior high 
school gossipy but Sirius is not the most mature person around, as we 
know.
