A quick clarification and an apology.  I didn't mean to make it sound 
as if I was quoting JKR, and that JKR said that Hermione wasn't 
"conventionally" pretty.  I only meant that JKR seems to go out of 
her way to describe Hermione in a way that, to me, would mean she was 
not conventionally pretty - for example, bushy hair, large teeth. I 
don't know if JKR has spoken on the subject.  Sorry if I led anyone 
astray.
