Setting aside the issue what his moral duties in this case are, I'm not 
at all sure HE had the financial means. Does it say anywhere he has his 
own money? Because if not, he would have to live on the allowances his 
parents gave him. I'm sure there would have been enough money as long 
as he behaved suitable in their eyes, but they would stop giving him 
money when he "ran away" with the wrong girl. And I don't think they 
would go back to giving him all the money he wanted (or got before) for 
fear he might do another crazy thing again.
