Well, Knockturn Alley sounds like nocturnally - at night time.  And 
the kind of shops that seem to be there are associated with dark, 
and things that are hidden.  Or maybe carried out in the dead of 
night!

I didn't catch Diagon Alley until I heard a clip of one of the audio 
books, I think sometimes they work better out loud!
