All excellent points, and I would only add that we don't actually know
that it was just the poison Basilisk fang that destroyed the
diary/Horcrux. The fang was covered with Harry's own blood (IIRC he
removed it from his arm), so for all we know, it may have been Harry's
blood that destroyed the Horcrux. I have wondered about this for some
time.
