I must have missed something.. How is it well known that going back will not change the future or affect it? Freeing Beaky and Sirius is changing the future isn't it?

--> The point is that we did not see Buckbeak DIE in the first time, and we only suppose what had happened. But everybody sees Sirius fall into the veil so, if we go back in time, we would alter the space time continuum.
If we go back in time and save Dumbledore, the same thing happens.
The only valid point in order of time travelling is, for instance, to inform Dumbledore that Snape would kill him and by that way Dumbledore assures that Harry finds something he would find useful sometime in the future or something like that. But not altering the past because JKR's time travel doesn't work this way.
