Soooo... the third little pig was an idiot? He shouldn't have worn himself
out with toil and trouble building a brick house because when he was 
outside it he was in just as much danger as his brothers?

If Quirrellmort hadn't been so close that Harry could touch him, he
would have killed Harry with the deadly curse he was about to cast in
PS/SS. Naginimort nearly killed Arthur at the MoM.  I'd say that was
proof enough that Voldemort's one remaining power could be deadly.
