The question to which JKR responded with this comment dealt with ALBUS  
Dumbledore.  Additionally, by convention when "Dumbledore" is used alone in  canon, 
it refers to ALBUS Dumbledore (check the books - "Dumbledore" always  means 
Albus, not Aberforth or anyone else).  When she included this  statement in her 
response to Mr. Rushdie, she was saying that the person she  refers to on a 
regular basis by the single name "Dumbledore" is, indeed,  dead.  And that 
would be Albus.
