Eddie:
In a sense, Tom Riddle was destroyed by Lord Voldemort.  Dumbledore
(and Harry) could destroy LV and leave Tom Riddle alive.  Especially
if he can use some of that Love from the "Love Room" (for lack of a
better name) at the Ministry of Magic.
