Strangely enough according to *my* reading of Dumbledore's character
I'd say that there weren't any such instructions in the letter. But
that's one of those *JMO* kind of arguments. I've got a question,
though. If he was willing to give them a way out, why didn't he simply
ask? He already went to the trouble of coming to Privet Drive, so why
did he dump Harry at Petunia's porch? If he asked and they refused, he
could take him somewhere else, simple as that. So why complicate the
matter?
