Um, I snipped the large part of your post because some of it just
the different interpretation of the same canon, but I wanted to
address this part.
Sirius had a perfect reason to think that Dumbledore would turn him
in IMO. Why? Because he already did twelve years ago. He did not
come to talk to Sirius, he stepped forward to give evidence whatever
it was, which Sirius knew was wrong, etc.
Sirius had an example of DD behaviour that would give him an
absolute reason to think that the last thing DD did would hear him
out IMO.
I am pretty sure that the last thing I would have done after
Dumbledore did not come to talk to me for twelve years was running
to him to hope that erm... maybe he would listen to me that time.
Good thing he did indeed, but I see no reason why the decision to
come to Dumbledore would even enter his mind.
Oh, and of course Sirius bears his share of responsibility for what
came for him. But the only thing which I hold him responsible for is
going after Peter. Totally understandable to me, but irresponsible,
yes.
I certainly do not hold Sirius responsible for not insisting he had
a trial, because no matter what he had no power to make sure he
would have a trial IMO.
Dumbledore on the other hand, could at least suggest so to the
Ministry. His popularity at that time was at all time high, he
turned down the Ministry chair around that time, give or take? No?
Fudge asked for his advice pretty regularly, no?
Yeah, DD should have talked as far as I am concerned and again, of
course primarily responsibility lies with Ministry, not with DD. I
blame DD for turning a blind eye towards the other possibilitties,
for not **acting**, that is all.
JMO,
Alla
