Kemper now:
The prophecy says 'neither can live while the other survives'.
And while I agree that Lord Thingy would be in hell if he lost his
powers, I do not see him as trying to off himself.  With six
horcruxes, it is evident that he is too afraid of Death.  Lord Thingy
would spend his magicless years finding a way to become magic again.
