Are you sure that Peeves can walk through walls? Others already
pointed out that he is not a ghost, but this is not the point. Peeves
can be visible or invisible at will, and he can Apparate ("Elf
Tails"), but I was sure that he can't walk through walls, at least we
were never shown this. Can you give an example, I can't find any. You
can do it off-list, if you don't want to spend an entire post on this.

Harry is mentioned "slamming the door behind him" as he leaves the
Room (p.608, US hardback). I think you (and va32h) are correct in
assuming that RoR was reopened by IS members, because thanks to
Marietta they knew exactly what to ask the Room to become.
