Um, I just thought of another possible example. It doesn't follow the 
exact rules of the device you are speaking of, and again, I wish it 
came from a more prestigous literary source....remember 
the "Highlander" films that were made into a TV series? When any 
immortal chopped off another immortal's head, they gained all their 
victim's knowledge, power, experience, etc. 
Incidently, I always thought that the soundtrack Queen created for that 
movie could easily be used as the soundtrack for the last HP movie ;0)
