Oh, oh, Steve.  I put forth a similar possibility, among others, as an explanation a few days ago, and got slammed for it. :-)

I too think that there are many plausible explanations as to why the letter was there and why Sirius never showed it to Harry.  So, I must agree -- folks are either open to possible explanation or they are not.  To each his or her own...

Perhaps we have reached a point where we should simply agree to disagree?
