I don't believe that it is said whether Marvolo Gaunt is a DIRECT 
descendant. He could be descended from one of the other Peverell 
brothers, or even another branch of the Peverell family, and the ring 
passed to him because they were the last remaining branch of the 
family. 

Although, I just brought up another question...If that's true, and the 
Gaunts are not directly descended from Cadmus, then the ring could 
easily have gone to the Potters...descendents of Ignotius. Hmmm....

Very interesting. Now there are two questions! Lol. Anyone else? Katie
