The only logical conclusion is that Sirius was wrong, 
that the Prank took place in their fifth year.  Or it 
was just one more detail that Rowling couldn't be bothered with.

The memories are not in exact chronological order, though.  
The very last one is of Snape finding Lily's letter at 12 
GP and that couldn't have taken place after he went to the 
Forest of Dean with the Sword.  Harry had already found 
the torn photograph months before.
