Thanks for the link, as I understand the definition inre. 
Cockney rhyming slang then berk is meant to actually mean a 
word that rhymes with "hunt"... and I can only come up with 
one which is a rather vulgar term for a part of the female 
anatomy...
   
I suppose the meaning has softened over time... :-)

Thanks Steve, although now I'm wondering how Brits would 
come up with the word "fanny" to reference that part of 
the anatomy...

   But it is very OT now...
