I think it is very much in character for people to stand around watching a duel 
to the death and not do anything.  For one, this has happened in real life, 
countless times, from the gladiator fights to people being murdered in plain 
view and no-one doing anything about it.  And Two, when there is a group of 
people, everyone seems to think someone else is going to help and no-one seems 
to take initiative.  I was watching a show on SAS and one memeber explained 
that as soon as they see an enemy, tehey shoot.  If this was't their plan, all 
the SAS would wonder who was going to shoot first.
