Colwilrin:

Thank you for starting a new topic!!!!! It is much appreciated. The
crucio thing is getting old. I agree that by the end, Snape tried to
show Harry why he acted as he did. The memories served not only to
instruct Harry that he was a Horcrux, but to attempt to express his
remorse and sorrow at the destruction he had caused. He tried to
explain, the best he could, why he was drawn to the dark side, why he
came back, and how he had to behave to remain undercover.

I disagree, however that he had Harry look at him at the end to see
Harry for himself. I think that throughout his entire life, Snape was
directed to act from his love for Lily. In his last moments, he wanted
to leave his life looking into the eyes of his beloved Lily. It was
his last comfort, and I'd like to think that in those eyes some
forgiveness and comfort was given to him by Harry.
