Lisa:

If I recall correctly, the Sorting Hat only speaks the name of the 
House aloud (and sings its song as well).  I understood that no one 
else could hear the Hat considering Slytherin for Harry; I figured it 
was heard only by Harry himself.  And Hermione said that the Hat 
considered putting her in Ravenclaw -- and since Harry & Ron didn't 
know that, presumably only she heard it, as well.
