Wow! There's been a wide range of "moments" for a wide range of
reasons. I guess it's my turn.
When I read, it's almost like being in a Pensieve. I'm right there in
the action, not part of it, but following along with the characters.
The moment --or at least one moment-- was in The Prince's Tale.
Severus and Lily are walking in the courtyard discussing his friends.
He's trying to show her that Mulciber and Avery aren't any worse than
Potter's gang. She points out that they aren't using Dark Magic.
Snape does't get it---but I don't understand it either.
Even JKR has said that the hexes and jinxes used by students are
dark. Clearly, we can see the difference once these boys become
adults, but the difference between the boys is confusing.
So I feel for Snape, who doesn't get the moral difference between
what his Dark friends do and what the other kids are doing. I have to
think it's a little like kids who start using pot, telling themselves
it's really OK.
