Why fly when you can apparate?

escape, Harry said, "Who's got wands?" Then, "Okay, all of you who 
haven't got wands need to attach yourself to somebody who has. We'll 
need to be fast before they stop us." Soon after going through the 
lifts and the toilets, they apparated. I took this to mean they needed 
a wand to apparate."

I took that to mean that if they got caught the ones with wands could defend
those without.
