What she intended with Teddy, I think, is to show an orphan who is raised by loving and caring family and friends, in contrast to Harry who definitely was not. I think JKR said that Teddy is definitely metamorphmagus..not werewolf.  That said, I certainly hope if she decides to do another "boy who lived" series she does a better job on it that she did on this one.  I'm still trying to fill all the plot-holes.  I don't think it can be done...
