Oh, I thought you meant the opposite.  In my experience with British 
friends -- and British friends of my sister -- naming children 
honorarily is even more prevalent in Great Britain than in America.  In 
America, we have far more "creative" names (either via spelling or 
uniqueness), while in Great Britain, traditional names are more 
common.  Even my nephew's wife, a native New Zealander, insisted on 
naming one of their children after her mother.  I think it's a 
widespread thing.
