I did say I hoped there would be a new understanding between them.
I'm guessing that once Harry understands why Snape hated him,
he will forgive Snape for it, and that once Snape understands what
really happened with the prank he will no longer have such a
grudge against James. As you know, I don't believe Snape killed
Dumbledore, so that won't be an issue once Harry realizes it.
As for Snape betraying the Potters, I think Snape has redeemed
himself for that already, and Harry needs to realize that too.
If Harry never has to see even DDM!Snape again, then JKR's
pronouncements about tolerance are going to sound awfully
hollow to this reader. IMO, JKR has to show that people can get
over bad blood.
