actually, it says: "None of them noticed a large tawny owl flutter past the
window"...  I have had the thought that maybe the owl was bringing a letter
to Prof McGonagall, who - as a cat - was on the corner of the street when
Vernon left, reading a map.  She wouldn't have needed a map to Privet Drive,
as she was already there.  Was she tracking Hagrid's progress???
