I still think that DD new, but didn't dare to tell Harry, just as he 
couldn't bring himself to tell about the prophecy. Maybe DD hoped to 
find a way to remove the soul bit first. It is not easy to tell a 15-
year old boy that he has to kill or be killed. It is much more 
difficult to tell him that he must die in order to succeed.
