Actually - I don't think there's a "Missing 24 hours" at all. I think
it's more JKR bad math. She needed both scenes to be at night, and
didn't realize how out of line it is to have Hagrid spending a full
day in transit. We don't, after all, speculate on the strange way the
moon seems to jump around in the sky, or how there can be two mondays
in a row (yes, I know that was fixed. But it did make it in there in
the first place)
