Let's see, where in 6 books has Snape ever expressed genuine remorse?
Well, there were several times when he couldn't get Harry expelled,
and of course Snape was heartbroken and near tears when the Dementors
were unable to suck the soul of Sirius Black out of his mouth; but
other than that I come up blank.

So not killing him would be original and imaginative? Examples of the
goody two shoes hero of a children's book being too noble to kill are
a dime a dozen. But how about the hero of a "kid's book" not only
killing a villain but enjoying himself when he did it, how many times
have you seen that?

I would bet you money you're wrong about that. No matter what smiley
face you paint on it the fact remains that Snape murdered Dumbledore,
and a price must be paid for that.
