Well, of course he did. But the question was how they had gotten into
the school, since Dumbledore thought it was impossible. Obviously the
best people to answer that question were the DE's themselves, and
Dumbledore, as the most skilled legilimens available, was in the best
position to get it out of them. Without that answer, Hogwarts would
be lost even if the raiding party was driven off without casualties.
