An Associate of Arts or Science or whatever is what one earns from an American
Junior or Community College. One then goes on to University to complete the
Bachelor of [Whatever] degree. However, lots of people--particularly if the
Associates is in a job-specific field--will just stop at the Associate's level,
or will take a few years off getting practical experience before going on to
finish a Bachelor degree.
The point is that there is nothing shameful about stopping at OWLS, which is a
perfectly respectable qualification.
