I agree with Snape being of average height. But I would add to you
list of 'tall',
Aberforth. He's described as tall and thin.
Which makes me wonder... JKR said she wasn't introducing anyone new,
so it must be someone we know. I'm assuming the paragraph takes place
in the present: the summer after DD's death. So, of our list of tall
suspects, Aberforth seems the most likely, as the Dark Lord seems to
address his servants by their first or last names. He would ask,
"News, Snape?" But instead, we get "News?"
