I think the Houses balance each other out well.  I would've liked to 
have seen Dumbledore's comment to Snape come to fruition and have the 
sorting come later in their school career -- perhaps in their 4th 
year, giving the 1st-3rd years some time to become comfortable in 
their new surroundings and allowing them to form friendships that 
would continue after sorting?

Lisa:

Weren't we told that during the last war, the bans were lifted on 
Unforgiveable Curses in order to effectively fight against the Death 
Eaters?

Personally, I never cared "why" he was on the right side, I just knew 
that he was!
