It did kind of seem like Harry was using the connection better in
the 7th book. Near the end, he was able to warn everyone that Voldie
was coming, or how near he was.
I was wondering about the last line for Snape. He wants Harry to
look at him. Do you think he was attempting to communicate through
Legilimens, or did he want to see "Lily's eyes" before he died?
Personally, I didn't think that Snape came off as too soft. Tortured
and a bit obsessed, yes. But going through everything to be a double
spy took a lot of will power. I just wish he had tried to defend
himself first.
