Hi, there, don't know the answers to 1 and 3, but on JKR's website, 
she has Dean's background, I believe in the edits/ characters 
section... he is the oldest child in his family; his mother is a  
muggle and his biological dad was a wizard who left the family when   
he was just a baby... before coming to Hogwarts, he lived with his  
mom, step-dad and a bunch of younger half-siblings.  This was all 
supposed to be in Chamber of Secrets (muggle-borns being attacked)   
but didn't fit, apparently.  I don't think his mother ever definitely 
knew his dad was a wizard, either.  And while he's friends with Harry,  
since he's not in the inner circle, his family probably didn't have   
to disappear to be safe, but who knows?
